Thanksgiving in St. Augustine

We usually spend our Thanksgiving in St. Augustine with my mom’s family. This year was smaller and simpler, but I loved it. I’ve done nothing but eat, sleep, watch TV, and read. Well we did go downtown today. I haven’t even made it out to the dock yet.

The family dogs. Sara Savannah, Mango, and Shiloh. Sara and Shiloh are Uncle B’s dogs and Mango is YaYa and Papa’s.

I guess we do a traditional Thanksgiving dinner down here. Except we add in smoked/ fried turkey to make it southern and flounder/shrimp/crab casserole to make it coastal. Besides that mac and cheese, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, corn casserole, cranberry gelatin, and kugel. What’s kugel you ask? Well my aunt’s family is Jewish, so our Thanksgiving is always half Christian, half Jewish. Kugel is a Jewish dish, kinda like mac and cheese minus the cheese. It sounds really plain and boring but it’s sooo good! Plus you can add dried fruit to it if you want.

Uncle Byron is having an exhibition of his photography this weekend above a local jewelry store. We got a sneak peak today. His photography is amazing. He mostly photographs St. Augustine, the beach, underwater, swamps, and caribbean islands. His website is here. Check him out!!

While downtown we passed by YaYa’s old house. It has now been converted into a used bookstore, an antique store, and I think a clothing store. She reminisced about living there.

I think this is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. Behind my grandparent’s house. They live on a bluff that overlooks a creek that leads to the river. I love going out there. Such a great great place. I can’t describe it. Definitely my favorite place in St. Augustine. I dread the last time I see this place.
